The concept for The Maryland Saddlery was born in the mid-1980s, when Hope Birsh was teaching riding to young children at McDonogh School, a preparatory school outside of Baltimore. During this period two things struck her: First how difficult it was for her students to find riding clothing and equipment. Second, after shopping locally, how inappropriately dressed they would appear at her lessons. When she opened The Maryland Saddlery in 1989, a modest 800 square foot retail store, she vowed that in addition to the usual adult boots, breeches and horse brushes, she would carry the most extensive selection of hard-to-find pony equipment, children's apparel and accessories available anywhere.
Maryland Saddlery has become a destination store both online and in person. The extremely knowledgeable staff, headed by Hope, are experts in the correct fit and tailoring of riding apparel. Maryland Saddlery has on staff a full time Saddler, Ridgely Davis. Ridgely specializes in fine custom bridlework and saddle repairs. |
